Rancho Gordo
RED CALABASH
A delicious, thin-skinned heirloom
documented as early as 1793
and assumed to come from the state of Chiapas in Mexico.
With flattened bottoms,
the smallish fruits are like beefsteak tomatoes.
ZAPOTEC
A large pink tomato with ruffles like a pleated dress.
Named for its ancient creators in Oaxaca,
this tomato is suitable for stuffing or eating raw.

Originally it was a wild Mexican tomato called Coyote Tiny Yellow. A jewel-like cherry, that bears 6 to 8 on a branch. Very flavorful!

Small, round red tomatoes, about 2 and half inches across. From a Zapotec home garden!

A good-sized cherry tomato, producing hundreds of meaty red fruits. Originally collected on the Punta Banda Peninsula in Baja California.

Unusual Heirloom variety with rosy-purple ruffled fruits, blushed bronze or chocolate-brown when ripe. Intense flavor. A very old type; the fruits resemble tomatoes pictured in 16th century herbals.

Heirloom paste tomato with very large, heart shaped fruit, meaty interior with very little juice or seeds. Excellent flavor for sauces, catsup, purées, bruschetta and soups.

Beefsteak originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. Largest of the bi-colored tomatoes. Sweet, mild fruity flavors.

An impressive slicing tomato with an exquisite blend of acid, sweet, and earthy flavors.

Apparently everyone's favorite heirloom! Rich, meaty and full of history! Of Cherokee Indian origin, this is a pre-1890 Tennessee heirloom that yields large fruits up to 12 ounces that are smooth with slightly ridged shoulders. Its dusky rose/purple color is so dark it is often referred as a "black" tomato. Fruits are sweet and rich in flavor.

An heirloom that produces large amounts of medium-sized 3" good tasting tomatoes. New to me this year!

A Mexican heirloom producing flattish ribbed, pouched-shaped, 5-oz., red/pink fruit with some occasional light green striping. Slightly hollow, firm flesh with moderate juice. Good taste!

Brought to the US by a Mexican family living in the Midwest. Regular leaf plant yielding huge sets of 1-lb., pink with good acid and very sweet flavors.

These two Spanish heirlooms came via a friend on the Internet.
I haven't tasted them yet
but I think it will be fun to make an authentic gazpacho
with Spanish tomatoes and my heirloom Lemon cucumbers.
