David Lida has a wonderful blog and wrote a fascinating book on Mexico City called First Stop in the New World: Mexico City, the Capital of the 21st Century
. I've never met him but you feel as if you know him from his writings.

My friend Patrice Wynne sent along the following quote from Laurie Garrett, senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations:
“I think the whole world should be saying, ‘Gracias, amigos,’ to the Mexicans for the tremendous sacrifice they have made. They may have stopped what would otherwise have been a serious pandemic.”
I thought it was an interesting observation as we make flu jokes and make fun of the hysteria the media created. If this thing had gotten worse and Mexico had done nothing, you can imagine the patronizing attitude we would have taken.
